Session on Vedic Maths

 

An insightful session on Vedic Maths was conducted on Monday, 25th April for the students of classes VI to IX under the Distinguished Guest Lecture Series: Erudition. Resource person for the session was renowned Maths and Memory Trainer, Dr B Sai Kiran , Guinness World Record Holder, winner of 5 World Records and 2 National Records in the category of Mathematics and Memory. He has also been awarded 'The fastest human subtractor'.

Dr. B Sai Kiran shared many mathematical tricks with the students. He also explained how to add any two numbers, no matter how big the numbers are. He used the Sutra Nikhilam and Vilokanam for addition and subtraction of large numbers in seconds, that too without taking carries and without borrowing. He explained the method of multiplications by number of 9’s using sutra Ekadhikena purvena, which takes only 3-5 seconds to solve problems like 8263528263 X 9999999999…

 

His methods of division of any number by 9 or 99 was interesting and intriguing. Ultimately he gave some useful handy tips to young learners on how to activate the right hemisphere of the brain, which is considered the powerhouse of all the brilliant thinking, creative work and supreme intelligence. The session was indeed a fruitful one !

M L Khanna DAV Public school organized a session on the topic ‘Does success lead to happiness or is it the other way round?’ for the Student Council members of the school. School Principal, Ms. Monika Mehan welcomed him and addressed the students emphasizing the need of holistic wellness of an individual comprising spiritual, emotional, social, intellectual and environmental factors - along with physical well-being.

The Guest Speaker, Dr. Neeraj Sharma began with explaining the elements of happiness that go beyond success. A beautiful explanation of three levels of happiness, process of becoming happy, the relationship between happiness and spirituality was developed in the session. Dr. Neeraj encouraged the students to delve into their experiences in the path of knowing themselves , exploring with open mind and following our age old, very logical and scientific writings in our scriptures.


Dr. Neeraj shared the perspective and approach in our life that we must follow and explained it on the basis of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and ERG theory ie. Existence, Relatedness, and Growth. Dr. Neeraj gave the students a simple mantra to be followed “Keep your eyes on your Soul and anything you do that makes your soul happy, leads to eternal happiness.”


The students of classes X, XI and XII enthusiastically participated in the session and came up with very pertinent questions in the session. A fruitful discussion on the questions was appreciated by Dr. Neeraj and he promised the students to interact with them for more such productive sessions in future.

The Guest Speaker for the session ๐ƒ๐ซ ๐๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ง ๐Œ๐š๐ฅ๐ข๐ค, ๐‘๐ž๐ ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐š๐ซ ๐. ๐‘. ๐€๐ฆ๐›๐ž๐๐ค๐š๐ซ ๐”๐ง๐ข๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ addressed the students highlighting the new guidelines of Central Universities Entrance Test. In-depth information regarding the eligibility criterion, admissions tests and universities under CUET was handed out to the students. He also briefed the students that the preparation of CUET starts with the analysis of the subject combination. He further advised students to prepare well for board exams , stay focussed, identify their strengths and weaknesses and accordingly study and revise for the different sections like Quantitative Aptitude, reasoning, language aptitude etc.


School Principal Ms. Monika Mehan welcomed the Chief Guest and addressed the students emphasizing the need to understand the essentials of CUET.
The event included an interesting Q& A round about the need of CUET with the ever changing and evolving times. Students were encouraged to put forth their doubts and questions related to the new format of entrance and admission.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks by the School Head boy.

 


 Distinguished Guest Lecture Series ‘Erudition’


Considering the change in learning and academic set up for the students due to the pandemic and to empower them with skills to overcome challenges and equip them with effective ways to digital learning e Erudition was conducted for the students of classes XI and XII on Saturday, 28 Nov 2020. The Study and Exam Skills in the Digital Era under the aegis of Dr Samir Parikh, Psychiatrist and Director of Department of Mental Health and Behavioural Sciences, Fortis Healthcare. Counsellig Psychologist Ms Pallack Bhutani talked about Study Skills to adapt to digital learning, effective revision routine and concentration exercises, tips for stress busting during exams and ways to balance life in digital times. This was followed by the Q &A session which was highly interactive.


Webinar on Restoring Mental and Physical Well Being during COVID 19 was conducted on Sunday, 8 Nov 2020 for the students of classes IX- XII. Guest Speakers to this session were Mr Vinod Ahuja, Social Worker and Mrs Renu Chawla, a yoga expert. The webinar addressed the factors affecting mental and physical well being and the students’ queries on how to get over lack of physical exercise, social isolation, disrupted routine, nervousness and anxiety during Pandemic.


In an increasingly complex world ,our students must master Creativity, one of the key competencies of 21st Century Skills. The webinar on Creativity for Better Learning addressed the approaches that enhance creativity and how by practising creative thinking skills students can increase their intrinsic motivation to learn.The session was taken up by Ms Himani Khurana- Psychologist, Educator, Trainer, Content Creator & Blogger- on Saturday, 31 October for the students of classes IX- XII.


The much awaited webinar on The Basics of Photoshop and Careers in Photography was conducted on Saturday 10 October 2020 for the students of classes VIII- XII. Resource Persons Mr Ashwani Tyagi- Photographic Art and Media Expert , and Mr Kaushal Seth- Expert Nature Photography briefed students with the basics of Photoshop, editing tools, designing actual graphics and varied careers in the arena of photography.


School Alumnus Arif Khan (badge 2013-14) and currently pursuing MA Economics from Delhi School of Economics after graduating in Eco Hons from SRCC, conducted a session for the students of classes IX-XII under Erudition – Distinguished Guest Lecture Series on Sunday, 30 August 2020 on the topic ‘Career Scope in Commerce and Economics’. The session taken up by him delved deep into an array of courses, best colleges to get admission into  and gave an insight into his own journey from school time to college days and the decisions he made to carve out a niche for himself.


Being successful or great takes time. You must come out of your comfort zone, overcome the obstacles and embrace the opportunities. A highly interactive and inspiring webinar was conducted under Erudition on Sunday, 23 AugustMs Samiksha Puri, the Alumna of our school and presently pursuing  B.Com Honours from SRCC, Delhi University took up the session on the topic ‘Jumpstart the Journey of your Dreams’. The success story of the school topper inspired the students of classes IX – XII to go that extra mile to realize their dreams and goals.


Considering the emerging trend of having photography as a career or pursuing it as a hobby, school conducted a webinar on ‘Photography and its Legal Aspects’ for the students of classes IX- XII and the members of the Photography Club on Sunday, 16 August 2020. The session was taken up by Mr Prithvi Paul ,The Treasurer Digital Arts Society, Manipal University.The session apprised the students of how drones have revolutionised photography, addressed their questions for visual perfection and instilled  a lot of inspiration.


Commerce is a stream  that offers a large number of good career prospects in India and even abroad.  A webinar on ‘ A Career in Commerce’ under the Distinguished Guest Lecture Series – Erudition on Sunday, 2 August 2020. The Guest Speaker Mr Nakul Sharwal (MBA International Business) joined students in making them understand What India offers post 12 that is at par with International Education,qualities a student must possess to crack IIM or FMS  and how and when to apply for various courses like IPM and BMS.

 


A webinar on ‘Digital Marketing Strategies’ was conducted on Sunday, 26 July 2020 for the students of classes IX- XII under Distinguished Guest Lecture Series- Erudition . Guest Speaker was Ms Shivya Mishra(PR Branding and Digital Expert) and an alumna of DAV Public School Khera Khurd Delhi inspired the students with her success mantra giving wings to their digital dreams.      


No, doubt excelling in a career is dependent on ones desire and  ability to prove it. Making a career decision at times gets baffling. To help our students overcome these apprehensions and doubts, a webinar for the students of classes XI and XII was conducted by Mr Alok Bansal, Career Counsellor and Mentor on the topic  ‘Career Demystified’ on Sunday 12 July.
