DAV Public school, Dwarka recently conducted an activity under ISA Programme Sports for Healthy LivingStudents of secondary classes were familiarized with the indigenous sports of different countries namely Pilates(USA), Aikido(Japan), Bamboo Pole Dance(China),Kabaddi (India) through Power point presentations and you tube videos.


The fitness regimes of some internationally renowned personalities like Arnold Schwarzeneggen (USA), Jillian Michaels(Africa), Michelle Bridges(Australia)
A friendly football match between students and teachers
A friendly football match between students and teachers was played on Saturday, 28th December under British Council ISA activity ‘Sports for Healthy Living’ .


The balmy and pleasant Saturday morning added to the enlivening spirit of the participants. Teachers’ team comprising both male and female staff played with a highly competitive spirit and gave a stiff and an unyielding competition to students.

Amidst gleeful and loud cheers the match was played with great devotion. The students’ team won the match by 8-5. The running commentary on this occasion added an electrifying flavour to the match. The fluent, confident and impeccable commentary done by S. Swaminathan and Arnav Tomar, Class X students was recorded and made into podcast for those to listen to who could not attend and witness this gala event.



Principal Ms Monika Mehan inaugurated the match and wished for the best team to win. In her address she said that such matches lend a unique and distinct bonding to the consecrated affinity between teachers and students.

Lecture Cum Demonstration on the National Sports of Japan and Thailand
Students of Class IX and X attended the Lecture cum demonstration on the National Sports of Japan(Taekwondo) and Thailand(kick boxing).Arjun Mehta and Kiran Yadav National Coaches in kick boxing and taekwondo respectively gave an inspiring lecture cum demonstration along with their team.
Mr. Kiran Yadav told how Taekwondo is a great exercise for children who are still growing and a good way for grownups to increase their physical endurance.Mr. Arjun Mehta briefed students how taekwondo develops a child’s athletic activities and self awareness and improves the child’s capabilities on self defence.The live demonstration by the young champions of Kickboxing and Taekwondo added to the learning of our students.
Inter House International Dance Forms Competition
Inter House International Dance Forms Competition was organized by DAV Public School, Dwarka for the students of middle school to appraise the students of different international dance forms like Can- Can (French), Tango (American), Cha –Cha (Latin), Bhartnatiyam (Indian).


The excellent performance of children left the audience mesmerized as the children danced with finesse and élan. This activity provided the learners with a chance to relate dance with healthy living.


Hansraj House emerged as a winner and bagged First Prize for their scintillating performance on the French dance Can Can. Vivekanand House which performed Cha Cha and Dayanand House which performed

Bharatnatiyam were the first runner up and the second runner up respectively.

Principal Ms. Monika Mehan appreciated the coordinated efforts of teachers and students and also appraised the students of importance of dance in our lives.
A briefing of International Dance Forms
Children of middle school were shown different dance forms of Russia, UAE, USA and India on projector. After having gathered information about various International Dance forms and prepared display boards that adorned the school corridors.


Students also had a videoconferencing with DAV Public School, Chandigarh wherein children of both school shared information galore about international dance forms. It was pleasing to see children expressing and sharing the information so confidently.


The dance forms they discussed were flamingo, hip hop, tap dance, salsa, Can Can etc.
Online Herbarium
Having done a lot of studies and activities like setting up the Herbal Garden by planting herbs of different countries, labeling the plants, making herbarium files and scrap books and collecting recipes of herbal cuisines, DAV Dwarka students created Online Herbarium.
The Online Herbarium using Wiki enabled the students to share the economical and medicinal benefits of herbal plants from China, Africa, India, Australia, Greece and Japan with the partner school Junior High School 217, New York, USA. The children of partner school gave their comments after being apprised with so many facts about a number of herbs like Goose berry, Aloevera, Thyme, Oregano, Basil, Neem, Aniseed, Dandellion , Garlic etc.
Making of Herbal Garden
DAV Public School Dwarka made a herbal garden in the school premises planting herbs of different countries like Nepal, Australia, USA, Kenya, India etc. The children prepared this herbal garden under the ISA Project- Herbs for Wellness.


Students were apprised of medicinal and economical benefits of the herbs like Basil, Thyme, Neem, Mint, Oregano, Dandelion, Ginger etc.
Students also labeled the plants and highlighted the parts of the plants useful for medicinal use.


They also made herbarium file and scrap books of various herbs from different countries.
Fun Videos and Poetry Recitation
Students of DAV Public School, Dwarka participated in the activity what makes me happy with immense gaiety and zest. They were found too ecstatic in sharing the things make them happy. What Makes Me Happy
“Find out where joy resides and give it a voice far beyond singing.
For to miss the joy is to miss all”
The whole school went euphoric in the month of August as it participated in the activity “What makes me Happy” relating happiness to sound health. This gave the students ample opportunities to express and emphasize different emotions. Children of classes Pre-School to V drew emoticons and smiles on coloured papers and joined them to make a big scroll.

Children wrote winsome messages all about happiness on the scrolls. The entire school was then adorned with the big scrolls making every one smile and teaching how to remain happy even in adversities. On this occasion laughter show was organized and comic animation film was also shown to children. Students of classes VI to X composed humorous poems and exchanged their views through poem recitation.


The fun filled activity achieved its objectives in sensitizing the children to the fact that the happiest people don’t necessarily have the best of everything, they just make the best of everything they have. Popping Pixels-The Photography club of the school will now prepare a presentation by collecting fun videos of different countries and sharing them with the partner school.
Online Blogs and Cover Pages
Students of IX and X prepared online blogs to display and share famous quotes by the famous authors of the Modern era, Cover Page of the books of award winning author with the help of designing software Microsoft Publisher. In their blogs they also displayed bio sketches and locations of famous authors and shared with the other students in school. A few blog addresses are:-

Literary Exhibition & Quiz
The Literary Gallery pertaining to ISA project for classes IX-X was organized by M.L. Khanna DAV Public school. The project was designed to develop and enhance the writing and communicative skills of the students.


It also helped the students to learn about the works and contribution of contemporary authors and poets of different countries like Australia, America, Ireland, South Africa and England to the world of literature.


This project consisted of two activities.
Activity 1 was the Literary Exhibition on the poets of contemporary era and their works & contributions to the Literary world. About 350 students exhibited their artistic and literary skills by sketching portraits and writing about the poets. A literary quiz “Guess the poet” was conducted. The quiz had two rounds the written quiz which was the preliminary round and the final round. The students participated in the quiz with great zeal and enthusiasm.


There was a tough competition among the participants. Among the four participating teams, team B comprising IX B & X B emerged the winner.The objective behind this activity was to develop qualities like team work and coordination and to know about the works of poets and authors of different countries.
Youth Parliament


To Celebrate international Youth Day , a Youth Parliament was conducted, as a part of ISA Activity by British Council, at D.A.V. Public School Dwarka on 8th August 2014 to discuss “Environmental Issues” faced by Australia, China, USA, Russia, India, Ireland , and Denmark. The Chief Guest on this occasion was Mr. Pratap Somvanshi , Senior Resident Editor of Hindustan Daily.
Around 350 students from classes IX & X participated in it . The events of the Youth Parliament started with the introduction of the delegates of seven countries. These students were divided into seven groups and each group consisting of 50 members represented one country. The student speaker of Youth Parliament convened the proceedings. The representatives of participating countries were invited to present the environmental concerns of their countries before the international community. All members got an equal opportunity to express their opinions and views freely. This was followed by the Question Answer session.


Suitable solutions were given to the problems faced by the countries with the permission of the speaker. This session concluded on a consensus that the deteriorating environmental conditions are the biggest challenge before the world and to combat these challenges it is necessary to build a global consensus through international collaboration. It was stressed upon to form an international forum to reach on a solution to make the planet a better place to live in. All the members unanimously agreed to form an organization “ACURIID” with the support of seven countries for the attainment of sustainable development. The objectives and action plan of this organization were read by the speaker.
Towards the end of the session students representatives took an oath to work for the attainment of sustainable development and to create a democratic environment at global level for the betterment of the whole mankind. With the vote of thanks by the speaker the session was declared adjourned and the representatives of the seven countries demonstrated mutual cooperation and understanding by holding a sapling and hoping that in times to come cooperation between the seven countries will strengthen and grow even more stronger.


Principal Ms. Monika Mehan applauded the efforts of students and the Social Science department in realizing the objectives of the Youth Parliament. She urged the Social Science department to continue with their efforts in providing such forums to junior children also as they give children an sight into global issues, equip them with debating skills, stimulate them to present their own thoughts and listen to those of others and inculcate leadership qualities.
Sensitisation Programme

D.A.V. Public School Sector – VI Dwarka organized a Sensitization Programme on the needs, feeding habits , medical and emotional care of pets of India , U.K. , Russia and Australia for the students of classes III- V . Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, veterinary doctor from the Department of Animal Husbandry, Government of NCT Delhi sensitized the learners through a power point presentation. The one hour presentation cum interaction included everything right from needs, feeding habits to medical and emotional care of the pets . Students discovered helpful information and many astounding facts pertaining to pets . They were completely sensitized that with love , commitment and proper care pets grow up safe and healthy and enrich every aspect of our life , true to the adage” Until one has loved an animal a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.”
Post sensitization programme an Intra –Class Quiz competition was organised for std. V. All the five teams participated with great zeal . Their awareness about the pet animals of U.K. , Russia , Australia and India amazed everyone .
In continuation with the sensitization programme, a Video Conferencing for students of classes III to V was also convened wherein D.A.V. Dwarka students interacted with the students of D.A.V. Public School Narela . Children from both sides shared what all they knew about “ How do Russians feel about pets?” “ Name few exotic animals kept as pets in U.K”.” What according to Australians are the health benefits of keeping a pet?” .All in all the sensitisation programme embedded global dimension to children’s learning .
Salad Making Competition


Salad Making Competition pertaining to ISA was organized for Classes IX and X on the occasion of World Health Day on 7th April. All the students enthusiastically participated in writing the recipe of salads of different countries mainly Russia, US and Italy. From amongst a number of recipe three were selected for the final presentation - Zuccini salad from US, Panzanella Salad from Italy and Vinegret & Olivier Salad from Russia. The Participants creativity was revealed through the different designs and patterns formed with different mouth watering salads. Not only this students gave salads a makeover with exotic dressings namely dijon, creamy Italian, stilton cheese dressing etc. balancing both taste and nutrition.
The objective behind this was to inculcate healthy food habits and make students familiar with international recipe of salads.
Fancy Dress Show My Pet- My Buddy


The bubbly children of Pre- Primary, I & II of M.L. Khanna D.A.V Public School, Dwarka had a cheerful and a fun filled week as they participated in a number of activities under the ISA Project(British Council of India) My Pet-My Buddy. An array of activities spanning over a week provided an excellent opportunity to the young learners to foster and embrace a global dimension in all they did.
The Fancy Dress Show took the center stage on 16th April 2014 where in around 250 children of Std. I dressed up in colourful costumes of pet animals of different countries of the world spell bound the audience with their sweet gestures and presentation. Students’ happiness knew no bounds when they twisted on the foot tapping tunes of “The Birdie Song”. Children of Pre- Primary had a rocking time on 19th April 2014 as they put jigsaw puzzle pieces together to form the pictures of colourful pet animals viz. Siberian Cat, Hamster, Gold Fish, Macaw, Ferret Pole Cat, Russian Tortoise etc. Last but not least children of II Std. sculpted some fabulous pet animals with modelling clay.


The activity packed week aimed at blending fun with learning. Principal Ms. Monika Mehan appreciated the whole hearted participation of students & teachers for successfully embedding the international ethos to the curriculum based activities.


Trip to Jaipur
Students of DAV Public School, Dwarka went to Jaipur to study the monuments of historical significance. They visited Birla Temple, Amer Fort, Jantar Mantar, Choki Dhani etc. Before the visit students prepared their itineraries and after the visit they prepared postcards, wrote diary entries and shared them with the partner school IBA Community College, Khairpur, Sindh, Pakistan.
