Dussehra Celebration

“Act as if what you do makes a difference”

Celebrated with gaiety, grandeur and in an eco friendly manner, Dussehra celebration at DAV Dwarka was a sui generis celebritas. The effigy of Ravana stuffed with neem leaves was put on fire symbolizing the triumph of goodness over evil and hopes of happier times. All the students from Pre School – X participated with immense fun and enthusiasm.

The programme commenced with a speech highlighting the significance of Dussehra. This was followed by a skit presented by I and II Std. students based on the magnum opus- The Ramayana.

All the students then wrote their negativity or negative thoughts on a piece of paper and burnt them along with the effigy of Ravana. They vouched never to let the negative thoughts, in the form of bitterness, anger, jealousy, hatred etc., rule their thoughts and well being.

Principal Ms. Monika Mehan appreciated this wonderful and distinctive move by students to stave off negativity and showing their concern for environment. She urged the students to promote goodness and positivity in themselves to create the life of their dreams and bring success and victory into their lives.

 

Teachers’ Day Celebration

Teachers’ Day at DAV Public School, Dwarka was celebrated with great ebullience and vivacity. All the teachers enjoyed the day to the hilt. In the morning class X students donned the role of teachers and carried out their responsibility of teaching lower classes with utmost sincerity.

Special programme on the theme “Back to Bachpan” was organized from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm in which teachers participated with full zest and zeal. The spate of programmes left all the teachers nostalgic. The programme commenced with chanting of the shlok “Guru Brahama“ by students sung in the honour of teachers in a mellifluous voice. This was followed by another touching and overwhelming song “Meri Maa” placing teachers on the same pedestal of a mother.

There were some more nostalgic moments where teachers had to identify the songs after  listening to “antara” . Teachers also danced to the tunes of all time favourite classy and foot tapping numbers. Felicitation ceremony was the cherry on the top. Winners and participants of Power Point making competitions were presented with trophies and certificates for showing their mettle in ICT.

The five winning categories namely ‘Good Try’, ‘Appreciation Prize’, ‘Third Prize’, ‘Second Prize’ and the ‘First Prize’ had five winners each. The efforts of the participants were also acknowledged amid cheer and appreciation.

Principal Ms. Monika Mehan congratulated the teachers for their laudable presentations and efforts and using technology in teaching learning process. The programme culminated with a lunch.

“Fun”, “inspirational”, “rejuvenating” are the best ways to sum up the Teachers’ Day celebration at DAV Dwarka.

INDEPENDENCE  DAY  &  JANMASHTAMI CELEBRATION

DAV Public school Dwarka celebrated the Independence Day on 14th August with full patriotic fervor and enthusiasm. The cultural programme commenced with the flag hoisting by the Principal Ms Monika Mehan followed by English speech on Independence Day by Rahul Sharma of class IX. Patriotic songs on the lives and the sacrifices of the freedom fighters made the atmosphere nostalgic. A skit by the Heritage Club showcasing the unity in diversity was appreciated by everyone.

 A dance performance on Janmashtami by the students of classes 3 & 4 was another attraction of the day which highlighted the significance of festivals in our daily lives and the festivity and devotion associated with Lord Krishna’s birth.

The dance performance presented by the Dance Club truly enriched the patriotic ambience. The programme culminated with the blessings and motivation by the Principal Ms Monika Mehan who congratulated everyone on the 68th Independence Day and explained the real sense of the term independence to the students and the way they can contribute to sustain Independence and cherish it all through their lives.

World Asthma Day

MY LUNGS  MY LIFE.......IT’S TIME TO CONTROL ASTHMA
D.A.V Public School, Dwarka celebrated World Asthma Day on May 06,2014. World Asthma Day takes place each year on the first Tuesday in May. Taking up the initiative to spread awareness about asthma, the Interact Club of  the school organised a special assembly on this occasion. An interactive session with Dr. Kansal, the medical officer of the school kickstarted the assembly in which causes and preventive measures of asthma were touched upon. Students took this as an opportunity to clear their doubts and myths about asthma and also showcased their knowledge on the topic. Dr. Kansal advised the students to identify their trigger points of asthma and carefully follow their doctor’s advice.

A skit was presented by the student members of the Interact Club depicting the causes, deadly results and preventions of asthma. Students also delivered speeches highlighting the need to make people aware about asthma.
As a prelude to World Asthma Day celebration, a poster making competition was held for students of classes VII to X. The prize winners of this competition were announced in the special assembly. Principal Ms. Monika Mehan congratulated the winners and applauded the efforts of the Interact Club for the wonderful programme. She encouraged the students to lead healthy lifestyles and adopt practices to keep asthma at bay.

 

Special Assembly Mahatama Hansraj Day

The school celebrated Mahatama Hansraj’s 150 birth anniversary on 21 April 2014. On this auspicious occasion a special assembly was conducted by  Arya Yuva Samaj club of DAV Dwarka. The programme started with a melodious song reflecting the sacrifices of Mahatama Hansraj . It was followed by the speeches that  highlighted the early life of Mahatama Hansraj as well as his principles, teachings and how he led the country from the darkness of ignorance to the enlightenment  of knowledge.
The students who had participated in Geeta Shloka chanting competition organized by Iskcon were honoured for securing various positions in the competition.
Principal Ms. Monika Mehan motivated the students to follow Mahatama Hansraj’s ideals and principles by sharing Mahatama Hansraj’s contribution in making the DAV movement a great success and also how he dedicated his entire life to the cause of education.

 World Heritage Day

The School celebrated World Heritage Day on 17th April 2014 with great devoutness and spirit to encourage students to become involved in Heritage Conservation on a local as well as on a global level and to foster synergies amongst them in the promotion of World Heritage.
On this occasion a special assembly for classes III to X was conducted. The programme commenced with Saraswati Vandana followed by Guru Vandana. Thereafter students shared their views to commemorate and spread awareness on the shared built and natural heritage of mankind.
The students rejoiced a lot in the melodious rendition of folk songs reflecting the culture and life of different states of India viz. Orissa, Kerala, Gujrat and Bengal .
Principal Ms. Monika Mehan called attention of the students on the need to reflect on how our heritage can be presented to future generations in a better condition and how to use this heritage in a sustainable manner for socio-economic development of the community.

 

Magic Show

A magic show was organized on 17th April 2014 for students of classes IV and V in association with the Hindustan Times. The magician Mr. Krishan Gopal entertained the students with his magical tricks. Students were astounded when he changed a 100 rupee note into an ordinary paper and vice- versa. The expression on students’ faces of ‘how did that happen’ was priceless. The students were spell-bound when the magician managed to fill up an empty casket with another box. On the whole, it was a fantastic show which provided the students a break from studies.

Earth Hour

Earth hour is observed globally every year on last Saturday of March by voluntarily switching off the lights between 8.30pm – 9.30pm. To show our concern towards the environment and climate change, let’s observer EARTH HOUR and voluntarily switch off the lights for 1 hour between 8.30pm to 9.30pm on 29th March 2014. Earth hour is a message of hope and action for energy conservation towards combating climate change.
All of us can make a difference.

Baisakhi Celebration

DAV Dwarka held its special assembly on April 11 2014 to celebrate the festival Baisakhi. Students delivered speeches, sang song and presented folk dances-Bhangra and Bihu  signifying the importance of the harvest festival. Principal Ms. Monika Mehan appreciated the marvellous and colourful performances given by students showcasing our rich Indian culture.She motivated the students to live the spirit of Baisakhi by being united and living in brotherhood. Her words- "We all are different in appearences,but under each body breathes the same soul" lifted everyone's spirit to stay united.

 Holi Celebration

D.A.V. Dwarka celebrated the colourful festival Holi with the ‘Khelo Holi Naturally’ campaign. The chief guests on this occasion were Dr. B.C. Sabata, Sr. Scientific Officer, Department of Environment, Govt, Of NCT of Delhi, Dr. Ashwani Kumar Gupta, Ayurveda physician and Acharya Shri. Hanumat Prasad Upadhyaya. The day started with hawan which was attended by the teachers. The celebration witnessed soulful bhajans on Holi sung by the music teachers of the school. Various teachers recited poetry conveying the frolic fervour of the festival. The chief guest Dr. B.C. Sabata addressed the staff and appreciated the efforts of the school in doing their bit to save the environment by celebrating ‘Khelo Holi Naturally’. He also emphasized on the need to adopt three R’s Reduce, Reuse and Recycle to protect our mother earth. Principal Ms. Monika Mehan expressed her gratitude to the guests for gracing the occasion and applauded the efforts of the staff and students. She gave voice to her thoughts with a beautiful message ‘This Holi let us unite and paint the canvas of our school with colours of dedication, commitment and genuine love for students.’Then followed the attraction of the day ‘Holi Milan’ where all the teachers wished each other Holi by smearing mélange of natural colours made by the eco-club students using gram flour, henna powder, turmeric powder, vermillion, fuller’s earth, sandalwood powder.
As a prelude to the bright- coloured festival, all teachers prepared posters with catchy slogans on Holi. The entire reception area of the school was adorned with these posters which added vibrancy to the festivity.

 

Farewell Ceremony

On 18th February 2014, DAV Dwarka hosted the “Farewell Ceremony” to bid farewell to the students of class X. It was an eventful day filled with smiles, positivity and blessings. The ceremony started on an auspicious note with the Hawan Ceremony where the Guests of Honour were Mrs. Chitra Nakra, the honorable Principal of Ved Vyasa DAV Public School, Vikaspuri and Shri Nanak Chand Ji, the Manager of DAV Public School, Dwarka. The hawan was performed in Eleven ‘Hawan Kunds’. The chanting of vedic mantras and the purity of the ceremony evoked pious feelings amongst all. The Guest of Honour, Mrs. Chitra Nakra encouraged the students to uphold vedic values and keep illuminating the society by their noble deeds and strength of character.

The cultural programme started with lamp lighting ceremony by our respected Chief Guest Mr. Nanak Chand Ji, Manager, DAV Dwarka. He blessed the students by giving his best wishes to them. This was followed by lamp lighting by class X  students which filled them with positive energy and brought smiles on their faces. As a token of love and remembrance, students of class X presented wall clocks for all the class rooms  of the school. They expressed their gratitude and admiration especially towards Principal Madam and their loving teachers for the guidance, love and affection showered by them in such a long period of time. It was an emotional moment when everybody went down the memory lane and smiled recalling those special moments strengthening the bond between the teachers and the students.

 The Principal, Mrs. Monika Mehan blessed class X students and reiterated the fact that they will always be a special part of DAVPublic School, Dwarka. This was followed by a “Dance Extravaganza”- an Indian classical and a western dance prepared by the students of class IX. Everyone appreciated them with a thundering round of applause.

The much awaited felicitation ceremony was special as a variety of innovative titles like Mr. and Miss Congeniality, Mr. and Miss Obediente, Mr. and Miss Perspicacious, Tower of DAV, Student of the Year etc were awarded to the students based on their personality and performance throughout the year. This made every student feel special and inimitable.
Last but not the least, everyone’s feet tapped to the catchy numbers setting the mood for the day. Students danced their heart out and further enjoyed the sumptuous lunch organized in their honour. This memorable day ended with happiness and a feeling of nostalgia in everyone’s heart. There was a 
blessing in everybody’s heart saying…

May you always have walls for the winds,
a roof for the rain, tea beside the fire,
laughter to cheer you, those you love near you,
and all your heart might desire.
May God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.
May the sun shine, all day long,everything go right, and nothing wrong.

May those you love bring love back to you,and may all the wishes you wish come true!

 

Live Orchestra by BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra 

DAV Dwarka students got a rare opportunity to attend a live orchestra by BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra at Siri Fort Auditorium. The orchestra is on a series of tours leading up to 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. It was a real treat to the eyes and ears to see and listen marvellous synchronization of musical instruments played by a band of 73 musicians. The orchestra performed a selection of pieces by renowned musicians like Beethoven, Mozart and Tchaikovsky.

Nicola Benedetti, the violinist of international fame, also joined the orchestra and played the tunes of famous  poem by Robert Burns ‘My Love is like a Red Rose’. The orchestra conductor James McMillan  also presented the beautiful colours of Scotland through pure Scottish music. The audience was awestruck and mesmerized by the enchanting performance of the orchestra. Students also came to know about the four parts a full time orchestra is divided into - Strings, Woodwinds, Brass and Percussion. The experience was indeed once in a lifetime opportunity for the students.

Run for Fun

It was a fun filled time at D.A.V. Dwarka as the students of classes V-IX took part in ‘Run for Fun’ race held on 30th & 31st January 2014. It was organized to make the students aware about the importance of physical fitness for their sound mind. The students enthusiastically participated in the 1.5 km race which was flagged off by Principal Ms. Monika Mehan who inspired the students by her presence. The exuberance and the excitement on the faces of the students was worth noticing.


The event ended with an address by the Principal where she congratulated all the winners and applauded the efforts and fervour of all the participants.

 

  Republic Day and Annual Prize Distribution 

65th Republic Day and Annual Prize Distribution   was celebrated in school premises with full patriotic fervor and zeal on 24th and 25th  January. Manager of the school Sh. Nanak Chand presided over the function on 24th January  and Sh. Karan Khanna , Secretary DAVCMC and Vice Chairman of the school was the Chief Guest on 25th January .Cultural  Programme which included speech, patriotic songs and dances brought festive ambience to the historic occasion.

Academic achievers of the session 2012-13 were honoured in the annual prize distribution ceremony. The Chief Guest  Sh. Karan Khanna motivated the students to develop reasoning ability and a positive approach towards all aspects of learning. Principal Monika Mehan congratulated Academic Scholars and proposed a vote of thanks.

 

Children's day Celebration

Children’s Day was celebrated on 14th November, 2013. A special assembly was organized by Social Science and Science Department.

Balloon Blowing competition was  organized for the students of classes III to X. Celebrations and competition were held to make the children feel special. Students were motivated to achieve their dreams through hard work and determination. Sweets were also distributed to the students.

                   Dushehra Celebration

DAV Public School, Dwarka celebrated an eco-friendly Dushehra on 10 October 2013.The speciality of the effigy of demon king Ravana was that it was stuffed with dried neem leaves. When neem leaves are set on fire, the smoke thus emitted acts as a disinfectant and kills various germs and bacteria present in the air.This festival symbolizes the victory of good over evil.

Similarly, the burning of this special effigy symbolized victory of purified air over pollution. This unique fashion of celebrating Dushehra seemed very relevant in the wake of torment caused by dengue fever and global warming. Arnav Solanki of class IX delivered a speech on the significance of Vijaya Dashami while the students of class VII enacted a play on the abduction of Lord Rama’s wife Sita by passion-governed Ravana. Head boy Arif Khan and Head Girl Khayati Mohan along with students of class I  set ablaze the rejuvenating dummy as  others looked on.

  Elder's Day Celebration

Kindergarden Wing of  DAV PUBLIC SCHOOL DWARKA  celebrated Elder's Day with great zeal and devotion to honour and respect for the World' s ElderlyStory dramatization by the tiny tots of Pre- school and and Pre - primary was the highlight of the day.

Principal Ms. Monika Mehan on this occasion applauded the students confidence in enactment and reminded them of the invaluable  contribution of the older persons  to the society.
